Tom’s Takeaways from week 15

What a crazy week in the National Football League.  Week 15 had just about everything you could have asked for.  The return of Aaron Rodgers from an injury.  Rob Gronkowski and Marcus Peters returns from suspensions.  We had the rise of the running backs.  A kicker that was 6-6 in field attempts.   Bottom tiered quarterbacks that performed like studs.  And one huge injury.

Antonio Brown was having an MVP type season.  101 receptions for 1533 yards and 9 touchdowns.  The most receptions in the league by a couple. The most yards by more than 200.  And tied for 3rd in receiving touchdowns.  And then the injury happened.  It did not look that bad, but Antonio was forced to leave the game and taken directly to the hospital.  This is a huge blow to the Steelers offense and to all the fantasy teams that have relied on his production to make the playoffs.  The early reports have Antonio missing 4 weeks.  We shall see!

Huge week for running backs.  Week 15 had 7 running backs reach 25 or more points in a ppr format.

7. Christian McCaffrey  25.6 pts

6.  LeVeon Bell  27.5 pts

5.  Melvin Gordon  28.9 pts

4.  LeSean McCoy  31.6 pts

3  Mark Ingram  32.1 pts

2.  Kareem Hunt  39.6 pts

1.  Todd Gurley  45 pts

For comparison sake: only 2 wide receivers broke the 25 point threshold.  Sterling Shepard with 30.9 and Keeland Cole with 31.6.  2 tight ends also hit that threshold, Rob Gronkowski with 25.8 and Greg Olsen with 26 points.  Running Backs ruled week 15.

Robbie Gould—  Place kickers rarely get the credit they deserve.  All this guy did was hit 6 field goals in 6 tries. In week 15 he made kicks of 38, 48, 28, 50, 48, 45 and added 1 extra point.  He was a difference maker this week.  Sticking with the 49ers.

Jimmy Garoppolo—  SInce taking over the quarterback job in San Francisco, Jimmy G has won his first 3 starts for the 49ers.  He is the first quarter back since Y. A. Tittle to lead the 49ers to wins in their first 3 starts.  Jimmy G is averaging 68 % completion rate and 338 passing yards per game.  They may have found their franchise quarterback.

Marcus Peters  return from a suspension and had one hell of a game!  He only had 3 tackles, but he was responsible for 3 turnovers.  2 interceptions and a forced fumble.  He made his presence known to Philip Rivers and the Chargers.

Rob Gronkowski also return from a suspension and posted huge numbers this week.  He caught 9 balls for 168 yards.

Aaron Rodgers returned from an injury.  Rodgers had mixed reviews.  He completed 26/45 attempts for 290 yards with 3 touchdowns and 3 interceptions.  He added 43 yards on 6 carries.  Better days are ahead for Rodgers.

Blake Bortles–  completed 21/29 passes for  326 and 3tds.

Nick Foles–  completed 24/38 passes for 237 and 4tds.

Eli Manning–  completed 37/57 passes for 434 yards with 3 touchdowns and 1 interception.
