The One About Running backs for Week 17

For those of you that don’t know this title is in reference to a little show called “Friends”. My girlfriend is on a netflix binge and this is the show she is currently engrossed in. I never realized that each and every episode is titled “The One about……”. For those that have never seen the show. It is a sitcom about a group of friends that live in Manhattan. Basically 3 guys and 3 girls become best friends and hilarity ensues. Misadventures and love interest is the theme of the show. It s a good show with lots of laughs and crazy situations. Check it out if you have never seen it. And now…..

The One about Running Backs for week 17

Just a quick reminder.  I will not be ranking the NFL’s top 3 running backs.  I will be leaving out Todd Gurley, LeVeon Bell, and Leonard Fournette. These guys are starters no matter who they are playing.   Week 17 presents some unusual situations.  A few teams have locked up playoffs spots and cannot improve their standings.  This could lead to teams sitting their star players.  Kareem Hunt, Demarco Murray(injury), and Jay Ajayi,  are also most likely out for this week.  This could lead to an opportunity for some younger players to get some run this week.  Here we go….

LeSean McCoy @ Dolphins  LeSean McCoy is the Buffalo Bills offense.  He has accumulated 1128 rushing yards with 6 touchdowns and also caught 57 balls for another 426 yards with 2 more touchdowns.  He is my number 1 overall running back this week.  The Bills have an outside shot at making the playoffs.  They need to start by beating the Dolphins and that happens by relying on their best offensive player.  20 carries for McCoy is the magic number.  In the games that he gets 20 + carries the team has won all seven of those games.  I expect a heavy workload in both the rushing and receiving game.  Get him in your lineup

Jamaal Williams @ Lions  Jamaal Williams is one of those young guys that is getting an opportunity to be the workhorse back.  This offense has been brutally bad with quarterback Brett Hundley at the helm.  Williams has been a bright spot for this offense.  He is the leading rusher for this team with 474 rushing yards with 4 rushing touchdowns.  Williams is the last man standing in the Packers backfield.  He is going to be getting the majority of carries.  Opportunity, opportunity, opportunity.

Derrick Henry vs Jaguars  Derrick Henry is getting an opportunity to start this week. Demarco Murray is out with an injury.  That means Henry is going to get all the carries he can handle.  The Titans need to win against the Jaguars to secure a playoff spot.  The Jaguars are allowing 116 rushing yards per game.  The Titans run a scheme called the  exotic smash mouth offense.  They want to run the ball, and run the ball, and then run the ball.  Henry will be the beneficiary of a run heavy offense.  Get him here.

SLEEPER

Malcolm Brown vs 49ers  Malcolm Brown is another young running back getting an opportunity to start.  With the news that Todd Gurley will sit this week Brown has a huge hole to fill.   Malcolm Brown will be the primary ball carrier.  He has a chance to gobble up as many touches as he can handle.  A heavy workload is expected.  Most of the time a heavy workload can lead to a successful fantasy output,  Sleeper!!

SIT

I have already mentioned that week 17 presents a unique situation in which teams sit their star players.  LeVeon Bell, Todd Gurley, and Demarco Murray, have already been announced as being out for week 17.  Here are four other situations players that you need to keep an eye on Kareem Hunt, Jay Ajayi, Leonard Fournette, and any of the Patriots running backs.  These players have not been announced as out for week 17 but hey could have a limited role in their teams plans for this week.
